Chapter 2: The Truth Comes Out

The rooftop went dead silent. Phones stopped recording.
Jake laughed nervously. “Fiancée? Nice try, man. Mia’s broke. She’s nobody.”
Alexander helped Mia to her feet, wrapping his jacket around her shivering shoulders. “She’s the only daughter of the Voss family. My father kept her hidden to protect her from people exactly like you.”
Jenna’s face turned pale. “That’s impossible. She works at a coffee shop!”
Mia coughed again, still shaking. “Alex… you didn’t have to—”
“I’ve watched long enough,” he said softly to her, then turned back to Jake and Jenna, voice turning ice-cold. “You humiliated the woman I love. Pushed her into a pool knowing she can’t swim. That’s attempted murder in my book.”
Jake stepped back. “This is a misunderstanding. We were just joking around—”
“Joking?” Alexander’s tone was deadly. “Security is already on the way. By tomorrow, your family’s business deals will be canceled. Jenna, your father’s company just lost its biggest investor — me.”
Jenna started crying. “Mia, please… we were friends once—”
“Friends?” Mia whispered, voice hoarse but stronger now. “You called me worthless. You both did. For two years I thought I wasn’t good enough.”
Alexander pulled her closer. “You’re more than enough. You always were.”
Later at the hospital, after doctors checked Mia for water in her lungs, Alexander sat beside her bed.
“I was supposed to reveal everything at the gala next week,” he said gently. “But I couldn’t watch them hurt you anymore.”
Mia looked at him, eyes soft. “You really want to marry me? This isn’t just… pity?”

He took her hand. “I’ve loved you since the day you spilled coffee on me six months ago and called me an arrogant jerk. I fell for the real you — not the heiress.”
Cliffhanger: The next morning, Jake showed up at the hospital with flowers, looking desperate. “Mia, baby, I made a huge mistake. Jenna means nothing. Please… take me back before your family destroys mine.”
