CHAPTER 2 — THE OTHER MARRIAGE

CHAPTER 2 — THE OTHER MARRIAGE

“That’s not me,” Emma whispered.

The woman across from her didn’t blink.

“It has your signature.”

Emma grabbed the document.

Her name. Her handwriting.

But she didn’t remember signing it.

“This is fake,” she snapped.

“Then explain this,” the woman said.

She placed a photo on the table.

Emma… in a wedding dress.

Standing next to a man she had never seen before.

Her breath caught.

“That’s impossible…”

The woman leaned forward.

“His name is Adrian Virelli.”

Emma froze.

Virelli.

Her former boss’s last name.

Her phone rang again.

Unknown number.

Same message:

“Don’t trust either version of your life.”

Emma stood up fast.

“What is going on?!”

The woman sighed.

“You were married to him before the accident.”

“What accident?! I don’t even know him!”

A pause.

Then the woman said:

“You were in one too.”

Emma’s head spun.

The room felt smaller.

“Stop lying to me!”

The woman stood.

“I’m trying to save you.”

“From what?!”

A loud crash outside.

Car alarms.

Screams.

The woman moved instantly.

“Too late.”

Emma grabbed her arm.

“What is happening?!”

The woman looked at her seriously.

“Someone found you.”

BANG.

Front door exploded open.

Black suits.

No faces.

Just voices:

“Target confirmed. Eliminate both wives.”

Emma screamed—

The woman pulled her down.

May you like

And whispered:

“You’re not supposed to remember any of this.”
