Chapter 13

Three years after Elena was rescued.

We decided to renew our vows.

It was Elena's idea.

"Our first wedding was beautiful," she said. "But this one will mean more. Because we fought for this. We earned this."

I agreed.

We planned a small ceremony.

Just family and close friends.

My mother was there.

Elena's parents.

Detective Carter.

Our therapist.

People who had stood by us.

People who had helped us heal.

The ceremony was in our backyard.

Under a canopy of flowers.

Elena looked beautiful.

She wore a simple white dress.

Her hair was down.

She carried a bouquet of sunflowers.

Ilaria was the flower girl.

She wheeled herself down the aisle.

Throwing rose petals.

Smiling from ear to ear.

She was so proud.

When Elena reached me, she took my hands.

Her eyes were shining.

The ceremony was short but meaningful.

We wrote our own vows.

Elena went first.

"Evren," she said. "When I was in that cabin, I thought about you every day. I thought about our life together. About the promises we made. You never gave up on me. You found me. You saved me. And for that, I will be eternally grateful."

She paused.

"I promise to love you," she continued. "Not just in the good times, but in the hard times too. I promise to stand by you. To support you. To build a life with you that is full of love and laughter. I promise to be your wife. Your partner. Your best friend. Forever."

Tears streamed down my face.

I wiped them away.

Then it was my turn.

"Elena," I said. "I thought I had lost you. I thought I would never see you again. But you fought. You survived. And you came back to me. You are the strongest person I know. The bravest. The most beautiful."

I took a deep breath.

"I promise to never take you for granted again," I said. "I promise to cherish every moment we have together. I promise to protect you. To support you. To love you with everything I have. You are my heart. My soul. My everything. And I will love you for all the days of my life."

We exchanged rings.

The same rings from our first wedding.

They meant more now.

So much more.

"You may kiss the bride," the officiant said.

I kissed Elena.

It was the best kiss of my life.

Full of love.

Full of hope.

Full of promise.

Everyone cheered.

Ilaria wheeled herself over to us.

She threw her arms around both of us.

May you like

"Forever," she said.

"Forever," we agreed.
