Chapter 2: The Signature He Never Read
Three years earlier...
Adrian had almost gone bankrupt.
His construction company was drowning in debt.
Banks refused to lend him money.
Investors disappeared.
Creditors circled like vultures.
I stepped in.
Not as his wife.
As an investment attorney.
I built a rescue package.
Negotiated every loan.
Found every investor.
Saved every contract.
He thought I was simply helping.
He never bothered reading the paperwork.
Because he trusted me.
Or maybe...
He underestimated me.
Either way...
Every investment came with one condition.
If Adrian committed financial fraud...
Or abandoned our marriage through proven infidelity...
Control of the company automatically transferred back to the primary investor.
Me.
He never noticed.
Never asked.
Never cared.
Three days after leaving the hospital, I called an emergency shareholders' meeting.
Adrian arrived wearing a tailored navy suit.
His mistress, Bianca Rhodes, waited outside in the lobby.
Already introducing herself as "the future owner's wife."
Inside the boardroom, twenty-seven executives stood as I entered.
Adrian frowned.
"What are you doing here?"
I smiled.
"Recovering."
He laughed.
"You should be resting."
"I am."
The chairman cleared his throat.
"Mr. Sullivan..."
He projected the first document.
Marriage dissolution clause.
Investment agreement.
Corporate governance contract.
Adrian's signature.
Every page.
Every clause.
Every initial.
His smile slowly disappeared.
"What is this?"
The company attorney answered.
"The agreements you signed four years ago."
Adrian looked at me.
"You tricked me?"
I shook my head.
"No."
"You just never read anything I gave you."
The room fell silent.
Then came the surveillance photos.
Adrian entering hotels with Bianca.
Vacation photos.
Private messages.
Bank transfers.
Everything.
The chairman folded his hands.
"According to Article 18..."
He paused.
"...you are no longer CEO."
Bianca rushed into the room.
"You can't do this!"
The attorney smiled politely.
"We already did."
Security walked toward Adrian.
He finally looked at me.
Real fear.
"Please..."
I stood.
Slowly.
My surgical wound still hurt.
Every step reminded me what I'd sacrificed.
Then I looked him in the eyes.
"The liver saved your life."
May you like
I paused.
"But your lies destroyed it."
