CHAPTER 2: Something Alive
Dr. Harris arrived within seconds.
"What's going on?"
Sarah swallowed hard. "I felt movement under his jaw."
The doctor looked skeptical.
"Movement?"
He pressed gently against Ethan's swollen cheek.
Suddenly Ethan screamed.
"MAKE IT STOP!"
Then everyone saw it.
A bulge traveled across the side of Ethan's jaw.
The entire room went silent.
"Oh my God..." one nurse gasped.
Dr. Harris immediately ordered an emergency CT scan.
Minutes later, the radiologist burst into the ER holding the images.
"You all need to see this."
On the scan, dozens of thin, worm-like shapes were tangled deep inside Ethan's jaw and neck.
No one in the room had ever seen anything like it.
