Chapter 14 - THE CHILD THEY COULD NOT CONTROL
Emma arrived at the hospital surrounded by police vehicles and news helicopters.
Doctors moved her directly into the delivery unit.
Her labor progressed quickly.
Rosa remained beside her.
Detective Reed waited outside.
Daniel learned about the labor from his attorney while awaiting sentencing.
He asked for permission to call Emma.
She declined.
The birth belonged to her.
It would not become another moment shaped by the Sterling family’s demands.
For twelve hours, Emma fought through exhaustion and fear.
She remembered the staircase.
She remembered Charles entering the dark hospital room.
