CHAPTER 4: THE REVELATION

The story broke at 6 AM.

By 9 AM, it was everywhere.

Television, newspapers, social media, every platform imaginable. The headlines were brutal:

ASHFORD GLOBAL CEO ARRESTED FOR BRUTALIZING WIFE

PHILANTHROPIST EXPOSED AS ABUSER AND FRAUD

MISTRESS ORCHESTRATED TORTURE OF BILLIONAIRE'S WIFE

WHO IS SARAH STERLING? THE MYSTERY WIFE FINALLY REVEALS HER FAMILY

I watched from my hospital bed as the news anchors dissected every detail. They showed photos of Nathan at charity events, shaking hands with politicians, smiling his perfect smile.

Then they showed photos of me.

Before the wedding.

After.

The difference was stark. In the early photos, I was smiling. Confident. Happy.

The later photos showed a woman who had been slowly erased.

"That's not your fault," Dad said from the chair beside me.

"I know."

"I just want you to remember. Whatever they say out there."

"People will take sides. Some will believe him. Some will think I did something to deserve it."

"They're wrong."

"I know."

"And you can't let it get to you."

I turned to look at him.

"Dad, I've been living in hell for four years. I can handle a few mean comments."

Dad smiled.

"That's my girl."

A nurse came in to check my bandages. The wounds were still fresh, still painful.

Two hundred lashes.

Nathan had counted each one.

Celeste had corrected the count.

They had both stood there, watching me bleed, and felt nothing.

"She's going to try to destroy you," Dad said. "Celeste. She's going to try to turn the narrative around. She'll claim it was a conspiracy. She'll say you were trying to get money."

"I have proof."

"I know. But she'll still try. Women like her don't accept defeat. They burn everything down on the way out."

I thought about Celeste.

The way she had laughed at my pain.

The way she had orchestrated my humiliation.

"Let her try," I said. "I've been through worse."

May you like

Dad smiled again.

"That's my girl."
