CHAPTER 2 – THE KEY HER SISTER HID
Victoria couldn't breathe.
Her eyes locked onto the tiny silver key.
"Where... did you get that?"
Lily held it tightly.
"My mommy said never to lose it."
The security guard reached for the key.
"Hand it over."
Victoria snapped.
"Don't touch her!"
The entire lobby turned.
A moment ago she wanted the child arrested.
Now she was protecting her.
The guard froze.
"Ma'am?"
Victoria slowly knelt in front of Lily.
Her voice cracked.
"Sweetheart..."
"What's your mommy's name?"
Lily shook her head.
"Mommy said bad people ask too many questions."
A nervous laugh rippled through the crowd.
Victoria wasn't laughing.
She knew exactly who taught Lily that.
Emily.
Her younger sister.
The woman everyone believed had died after her car plunged into a canyon six months ago.
Victoria pointed at the key.
"What does it open?"
Lily answered without hesitation.
"A little box."
"Where?"
"The train station."
The lobby fell silent again.
Victoria whispered,
"Locker 317?"
Lily nodded.
"Yes."
Victoria closed her eyes.
Only two people had ever known about Locker 317.
Emily...
And herself.
She looked up at the security guard.
"Call the police."
The guard blinked.
"I thought—"
"Not for her."
Victoria stood.
"For anyone who tries to leave."
Across the lobby...
A middle-aged man wearing an expensive gray suit quietly turned toward the revolving doors.
Victoria pointed at him.
"Stop him!"
The man broke into a sprint.
Hotel security rushed after him.
His briefcase slammed against the marble as he fell.
Papers flew everywhere.
Bank statements.
Fake passports.
Cash.
Guests gasped.
The man shouted,
"You don't understand!"
Victoria wasn't listening.
Her eyes never left the little silver key.
Because she already knew...
If the locker still existed...
Emily had planned this.
And whatever waited inside...
May you like
Was worth dying for.
