Chapter 3: The Deal Inside the Walls
Two weeks later, I was called to the warden’s office.
A man in a suit was waiting.
Not prison staff.
Corporate legal counsel.
He slid a document across the table.
“You have a choice,” he said.
I frowned.
“What choice?”
He adjusted his glasses.
“Stay here… or assist us.”
I laughed.
“Assist who?”
He tapped the folder.
“Your former company.”
My heart stopped.
“What?”
He opened it.
My company logo.
My name still attached… but crossed out.
Replaced.
By my wife.
Elena Vale.
The man leaned forward.
“She didn’t just testify against you.”
“She took everything the moment you were convicted.”
I felt something twist inside me.
“Why are you telling me this?”
He answered simply:
“Because she made a mistake.”

A pause.
“She left you alive.”
