Part 2 — The Guardian Who Wanted the Empire

Arthur did not sleep that night.

Not because of the lawsuit Victoria threatened.

Not because of the phone calls from her lawyers.

Not even because the woman he had planned to marry had tried to harm the only person left in the world who called him Daddy.

He stayed awake because he kept hearing Lily’s voice.

"I want Daddy."

Four words.

Four words that finally opened his eyes.

For two years, Victoria had been slowly rewriting his life.

She arrived six months after Lily’s mother, Eleanor, died.

At the time, Arthur was drowning.

He was a billionaire who could negotiate billion-dollar acquisitions without blinking, but he couldn’t convince his four-year-old daughter to sleep through the night without crying for her mother.

Victoria appeared when he was vulnerable.

She knew exactly what to say.

"Lily doesn't need a replacement mother, Arthur. She just needs someone who loves her."

And Arthur believed her.

Everyone did.

The newspapers called Victoria the woman who saved the Sterling family.

Charity organizations praised her.

Her friends described her as a saint.

But now Arthur sat alone in his security room, watching the footage again.

Frame by frame.

Victoria walking toward Lily.

Victoria looking around to make sure nobody was watching.

Victoria placing both hands on his daughter.

And the most terrifying part...

Victoria never looked surprised when Lily fell.

She looked relieved.

Arthur froze the image.

Then he noticed something he had missed.

A phone in Victoria’s hand.

She wasn’t calling for help.

She was recording.

The next morning, Arthur’s attorney, Michael Reeves, arrived before sunrise.

He watched the footage silently.

Then he placed a folder on the table.

"Arthur... there’s something you need to know."

Arthur looked up.

"What?"

Michael hesitated.

"Victoria wasn’t just trying to marry you."

He opened the folder.

Inside were documents.

Bank transfers.

Private investigators' reports.

And one name appeared repeatedly.

Sterling Family Trust.

"The guardianship papers she wanted you to sign..."

Arthur’s expression hardened.

"What about them?"

Michael swallowed.

"They would have given her legal control over Lily’s inheritance if anything happened to you."

Silence filled the room.

Arthur looked toward the hallway where Lily was sleeping.

The same daughter Victoria had tried to push into a pool.

The same daughter whose future Victoria wanted to own.

"She wasn't trying to become my wife," Arthur whispered.

Michael shook his head.

"She was trying to become Lily's guardian."

Arthur closed the folder.

"No."

His voice was calm.

May you like

Dangerously calm.

"She was trying to become the person who would inherit everything."
