## CHAPTER 3 ## THE FAMILY THAT BUILT A LIE

The signature stared back at Marcus.

---

Evelyn Thorne.

---

His mother's name.

Written clearly at the bottom of the document.

---

For several seconds...

Marcus couldn't move.

---

The woman who raised him.

The woman who taught him that family came before everything.

The woman who always said his father's legacy was sacred.

---

Had signed a document connected to the destruction of another family.

---

"That's impossible."

Marcus finally whispered.

---

Daniel Parker didn't react.

---

"That's what I said twenty years ago."

---

Marcus looked up sharply.

---

"What happened?"

---

Daniel pulled out a chair and sat down.

For the first time that night...

The powerful billionaire looked like a man searching for answers.

Not a CEO.

Not an heir.

Just a son.

---

"Your father and mine were partners."

Daniel said.

---

"Before Thorne Industries became what it is today."

---

Marcus looked at Khloe.

She was listening silently.

---

"My father, Richard Parker, created the original technology that built the company."

Daniel continued.

---

"Your father provided the money and connections."

---

Marcus frowned.

---

"So they built it together."

---

"Yes."

---

"Then what changed?"

---

Daniel's expression darkened.

---

"Success changed people."

---

---

Twenty-five years earlier...

Richard Parker was the brilliant inventor.

The man who spent years developing technology that would revolutionize the industry.

---

But he wasn't a businessman.

---

He trusted people.

---

Especially Jonathan Thorne.

---

Marcus's father.

---

At first...

They were brothers in everything except blood.

---

They celebrated every victory together.

They dreamed about building something that would change the world.

---

Then the money arrived.

---

The investors.

The fame.

The power.

---

And Jonathan Thorne realized something.

---

He didn't need a partner anymore.

---

He needed ownership.

---

---

"Your father changed the contracts."

Daniel said.

---

"He moved the intellectual property into a private company controlled by the Thorne family."

---

Marcus's face tightened.

---

"Without my father knowing?"

---

Daniel nodded.

---

"When Richard discovered it, he threatened to expose him."

---

"And then?"

---

Daniel looked away.

---

"Then Richard disappeared."

---

Silence.

---

Marcus's heart sank.

---

"What do you mean disappeared?"

---

"No one ever found the evidence."

---

A pause.

---

"And no one ever found the truth."

---

---

Marcus stood.

---

"You think my father had something to do with my father-in-law disappearing?"

---

Daniel looked at him.

---

"I don't think."

---

"I know."

---

The room went quiet.

---

---

Marcus turned toward Khloe.

---

"Why didn't you tell me?"

---

The pain on her face was immediate.

---

"Because I didn't know if you were your father's son..."

---

She stopped.

---

Marcus stared.

---

"What does that mean?"

---

Khloe looked down.

---

"Before I fell in love with you, I spent years believing your family destroyed mine."

---

A tear fell.

---

"Then I met you."

---

"You were different."

---

"You cared about people."

---

"You listened."

---

"You didn't act like you owned the world."

---

Her voice broke.

---

"And I was terrified that if I told you the truth..."

---

"You would choose your family over me."

---

Marcus looked away.

---

Because deep down...

He knew why she was afraid.

---

---

The next morning...

The news exploded.

---

BILLIONAIRE HEIR'S WIFE ATTACKED IN PRIVATE HOSPITAL SUITE

---

But that wasn't the headline that worried Marcus.

---

The second headline was worse.

---

THORNE FAMILY LEGACY QUESTIONED AFTER SECRET DOCUMENTS SURFACE

---

Someone had leaked the documents.

---

Someone wanted chaos.

---

Marcus knew immediately.

---

Isabella.

---

---

At the Thorne mansion...

His mother was waiting.

---

Evelyn Thorne sat in the living room wearing a perfect cream-colored suit.

Calm.

Elegant.

Untouchable.

---

Just like always.

---

"You're finally here."

She said.

---

Marcus didn't sit.

---

"Did you know?"

---

Evelyn looked up.

---

"Know what?"

---

"About the Parker family."

---

The smallest change appeared on her face.

---

But Marcus saw it.

---

Fear.

---

"You spoke to Daniel."

---

It wasn't a question.

---

Marcus placed the documents on the table.

---

"You stole from them."

---

Evelyn sighed.

---

"Don't be dramatic."

---

"Did you?"

---

Silence.

---

Then she said:

"Your father made difficult decisions."

---

Marcus stared.

---

"That's not an answer."

---

"He protected this family."

---

"No."

Marcus shook his head.

---

"He protected himself."

---

For the first time...

Evelyn's calm expression disappeared.

---

"You have no idea what it took to build this empire."

---

Marcus stepped closer.

---

"And you have no idea what it cost."

---

---

Evelyn stood.

---

"You are my son."

---

"That means you protect this family."

---

Marcus looked at her.

---

"And what about Khloe?"

---

A pause.

---

His mother's eyes narrowed.

---

"She was never supposed to become a problem."

---

Marcus froze.

---

"What did you say?"

---

Evelyn realized her mistake.

Too late.

---

---

"Mom."

His voice dropped.

---

"How do you know she was a problem?"

---

Silence.

---

Then Marcus understood.

---

His mother knew about Khloe.

---

Before tonight.

---

She knew Isabella was targeting her.

---

Maybe she knew everything.

---

---

Suddenly...

Marcus's phone rang.

---

The hospital.

---

His heart stopped.

---

He answered immediately.

---

"Hello?"

---

A nurse's voice came through.

---

"Mr. Thorne..."

---

"Your wife is awake."

---

Relief.

---

Then the nurse continued.

---

"But there is a problem."

---

Marcus's expression changed.

---

"What problem?"

---

A pause.

---

"Someone tried to enter her room."

---

Marcus tightened his grip on the phone.

---

"Who?"

---

The nurse lowered her voice.

---

"The person showed hospital identification."

---

Marcus felt cold.

---

"Who was it?"

---

The answer came.

---

And destroyed everything.

---

May you like

"It was your mother."
