CHAPTER 5: THE DNA

Marcus arranged for me to give a DNA sample.
The results came back a week later.
I sat in his office, staring at the paper in my hands.
It was official. My father wasn't my father.
Harold Whitmore was.
My uncle.
My real father.
"Is there any way to contact him?" I asked.
"I've already reached out. He's coming back to Chicago next week."
"He's coming back?"
"He's been waiting for this. He wanted to see you. He was just... waiting for the right time."
I looked at the results again.
I had a father.
A real father.
And he was coming to meet me.
I didn't know what to feel. Relief? Anger? Joy? All of it mixed together into a confusing, overwhelming haze.
But one thing was clear.
I was going to meet him.
May you like
And I was going to hear the truth.
From the one person who had been kept from me my entire life.
