Three weeks later, Ethan requested one meeting.

He looked older.

Smaller.

The confidence was gone.

"I made a mistake."

"No," I replied.

"You made a choice."

"I loved you."

"You loved control."

He lowered his head.

"I've lost everything."

I looked toward the nursery window.

"No."

"You lost everything the moment you walked away from the ICU."
