PART 2 — The Clause He Never Read

Three hours later, my family lawyer, Arthur Bennett, arrived carrying a leather briefcase.

He didn't ask how I felt.

He already knew.

Instead, he placed a thick folder across my hospital bed.

"Ethan triggered the Founder's Protection Clause."

I frowned through the pain.

"What clause?"

"The one your grandfather insisted on before approving your marriage."

Arthur opened the trust agreement.

"If your spouse abandons you during a life-threatening medical emergency, every voting share temporarily transferred through marriage immediately returns to the bloodline."

My heart stopped.

NovaGen Biotech.

The company Ethan had spent ten years climbing.

"It happened the moment he signed the divorce papers while you were unconscious," Arthur continued.

"The Board has already called an emergency meeting."

Meanwhile...

Ethan walked into NovaGen headquarters expecting congratulations.

Instead, every executive refused to meet his eyes.

The chairman stood.

"Mr. Caldwell..."

"Your access has been suspended."

"What?"

"The trust has reclaimed control."

For the first time in years...

Ethan realized he wasn't in charge anymore.
