Chapter 6: The Lawsuit She Can’t Win

The lawsuit was absurd—full of lies, twisted facts, and claims that Victoria had orchestrated the whole thing to steal her land. But Evelyn had money, connections, and lawyers who’d drag this out for years if it meant ruining Victoria.

Silas sat across from her in her office later that week, spreading out files. “She thinks she can bully you into backing down. She’s done it to a dozen others.”

“Not this time,” Victoria said. “We have witnesses. We have the recording. We have Lily.”

“Lily doesn’t have to testify,” Silas said quickly. “She’s six.”

“Only if we don’t need her,” Victoria replied. “But if Evelyn tries to make this about her… I’ll let her tell her truth. However she can.”

That night, Lily climbed into Victoria’s lap before bed. “Mommy?”

“Yeah, baby?”

“Can we help the other kids too? The ones who are scared to talk?”

Victoria hugged her tight. “We’re going to help as many as we can. I promise.”

But as she kissed her goodnight, an email popped up on her screen: Notice of hearing—Evelyn Vance vs Victoria Harrington. Date set for next month. All parties required to attend.

And attached: a list of witnesses Evelyn planned to call. Including Lily.
