Chapter 4: The Charges She Never Saw Coming

“Lady Evelyn Vance?” one said. “We have a report of assault and intimidation of a minor. Please come with us.”

Evelyn froze. “You can’t—my family—my standing—”

“Your standing doesn’t matter when you hurt a child,” Victoria said quietly.

As they led her out, the guests parted like water. No one spoke. No one moved to stop them.

Silas turned to Victoria, his expression softening. “I’ve been trying to take her down for years. She’s bullied people for decades—landscapers, servers, anyone she thought couldn’t fight back. You just gave me the proof I needed.”

He knelt down to Lily’s level, gentle as could be. “I’m so sorry she was mean to you. None of us think you don’t belong here. Especially me.”

Lily peeked out from behind Victoria’s leg, whispered so soft only he could hear: “Th-thank you.”

Silas smiled. “Anytime. And if she ever tries anything again—you tell me. I’ve got a whole team of people who make sure bad people can’t hurt good kids.”

Then Victoria’s phone buzzed. A text from her office: The city council just pulled their support for Evelyn’s appeal. Your project is approved.
