CHAPTER 2: THE SECRET THAT WAS NEVER SUPPOSED TO LEAK
Emily stepped back from the ruined cake.
Her breathing uneven.
“What inheritance are you talking about?” she asked.
Jason finally spoke.
“Emily, don’t listen to her.”
But his voice wasn’t firm.
It was nervous.
That made everything worse.
Victoria laughed.
“Oh, he didn’t tell you?” she said. “That baby isn’t just a child. It’s a key.”
A murmur spread through the room.
Linda Miller stepped forward.
“The trust requires a direct heir born within the marriage,” she said calmly. “Without that child, the Miller estate gets divided.”
Emily’s stomach dropped.
“…so this was planned?” she whispered.
Jason raised his hands.
“No—this is not what it looks like.”
But Emily saw it now.
The hesitation.
The guilt.
The silence.
Everything.
Then—
the microphone on the podium crackled.
Nobody noticed at first.
Until a voice came through the speakers.
Clear.
Loud.
Unfiltered.
Jason’s voice.
“…once she delivers the baby, we secure full custody and transfer the trust.”
The entire room went dead silent.
Jason turned pale.
“What the hell—turn that off!”
But it kept going.
Linda’s voice now.
“She won’t fight it. She’s too emotional.”
Gasps filled the church hall.
Emily stumbled backward.
“No… no, this can’t be real…”
Victoria smiled.
But now it wasn’t confident anymore.
It was nervous.
Because the microphone wasn’t just ON.
It was broadcasting.
Online.
To a live stream.
Jason rushed toward the podium.
“TURN IT OFF!”
May you like
But it was too late.
The entire plan had already gone public.
