Chapter 11 - THE RAID

Federal agents raided Redwood Strategic Procurement at 6:12 a.m.
By 7:00, Camilla’s condo was searched again.
By 8:30, Julian’s townhouse was sealed.
He had moved out of our home two days earlier.
He still called it temporary.
Agents recovered servers.
Cash.
Contract files.
And a burner phone.
Julian’s.
Messages with James.
Messages with Marcus Cole.
Messages with Camilla.
And one message to Nina.
IF AUDREY GETS CONTROL, WE USE THE GUARANTEE.
That ended the “I knew nothing” defense.
Then another.
MAKE SURE CAMILLA TAKES SOMETHING PERSONAL.
It helps if Audrey looks jealous.
I stared at it.
The earrings.
My mother’s ring.
Not random theft.
Props.
My life used as stage design.
Agent Priya Shah asked.
“Do you want a break?”
“No.”
I did.
But no.
Then she showed me a financial transfer.
Julian had moved $900,000 into a trust.
Beneficiary.
A child.
Eight years old.
Name.
Noah Cole.
Nina’s son.
I looked at her.
“Is that his child?”
“We’re verifying.”
DNA confirmed it three days later.
Julian had a son.
Eight.
Older than our marriage by one year.
I sat in my car for twenty minutes after hearing.
Not because I wanted children with Julian.
We had chosen not to.
Or I thought we had chosen.
He had spent our entire marriage quietly funding another family.
Camilla had not known.
Neither had Nina’s husband.
The scandal exploded.
Nina stopped cooperating for forty-eight hours.
Then returned.
She looked hollow.
“Julian said Noah’s father knew.”
“He didn’t.”
“I know.”
She wiped her face.
“He lies like breathing.”
I almost said yes.
Then stopped.
I had lived beside him too.
Nina gave prosecutors the missing original vendor ledger.
And a recording.
Julian talking about me.
“If Audrey ever leaves, I’ll make sure she spends five years proving she wasn’t crazy.”
That sentence did something the shoulder strike had not.
It scared me.
Not because he could still do it.
Because I finally understood how long he had imagined me as an opponent.
Then Agent Shah said.
“We’re ready to charge him.”
“For what?”
“Wire fraud.”
“Identity theft.”
“Conspiracy.”
“Obstruction.”
“Evidence fabrication.”
“Unlawful access to medical records.”
She paused.
“And assault, if local prosecutors proceed.”
I thought I would feel victory.
Instead, I asked.
