Emily Carter was in labor for fourteen hours.

Emily looked from Vanessa to her husband.
"You brought another woman into my delivery room?"

"Vanessa and I have been together for eight months."
Emily felt like she'd been punched.
"What?"
"I was going to tell you after the baby was born," Ryan said. "But honestly, I don't want to lie anymore."
Vanessa crossed her arms.
"You should be grateful Ryan stayed this long."
Emily couldn't believe what she was hearing.

Ryan looked around the room.
"Listen, Emily. Vanessa and I are serious. After the baby is born, I want a divorce."
Emily burst into tears.
"Get out."
Ryan shook his head.
"No. I have a right to be here. That's my child."
Vanessa laughed softly.
"Honestly, Ryan, she's being so dramatic."
Before Emily could respond, a deep voice suddenly came from the doorway.
