My Gambling Addict Husband Sold Our Newborn Son… Until My Father, The Marine Recon Legend, Walked Into The Casino
Chapter 1: The Phone Call
The phone rang at 2:17 a.m., tearing through the quiet trailer like a gunshot.
Lila snatched it up, heart hammering. “Hello?”
A sleazy voice on the other end laughed. “Mrs. Harlan? You got twenty-four hours to come up with fifty grand or your baby boy stays with us. Your husband already signed the papers.”
“What?!” Lila screamed, bolting upright. “Tyler, what did you do?!”
From the bathroom, her husband Tyler stumbled out, eyes bloodshot, still drunk. “It’s just business, babe. I had a sure thing at the tables. I’ll win it back—”
“You sold our son?!” Lila’s voice cracked as she clutched her phone. Fresh C-section stitches burned as she stood up too fast. “He’s three days old, Tyler! Where is he?!”
Tyler shrugged, lighting a cigarette. “Some rich couple in Vegas. They paid cash. We can make more kids later.”
Lila lunged at him, swinging wildly. “You worthless piece of shit! I’m calling the police!”
Tyler shoved her hard against the wall. “Go ahead. I already told them you’re crazy and postpartum. They won’t believe you.”
That’s when Lila remembered the old number she’d saved years ago. With shaking fingers, she dialed while Tyler laughed.
“Dad… it’s me,” she whispered when the line clicked. “I know you said never to call unless it was life or death. Tyler sold our baby. Please… help me.”
Silence. Then a low, gravelly voice answered — the voice of a man who’d spent twenty years in Marine Recon and was supposed to be retired in the mountains.
“I’m on my way, baby girl. Don’t do anything stupid. And tell that sorry excuse for a husband… he’s already dead to me.”
Twelve hours later, the doors of the Golden Spike Casino in Vegas exploded inward as a tall, broad-shouldered man in a worn Marine jacket stormed through security like they were paper.
Tyler was at the blackjack table, laughing with a drink in his hand, when he heard the commotion.
Colonel Robert Harlan locked eyes with him from across the floor.
“You son of a bitch,” Harlan growled loud enough for half the casino to hear. “Where’s my grandson?”
Tyler dropped his chips. “I-I can explain—”

Harlan grabbed him by the collar and slammed him onto the felt table. “Start talking. Now.”
