Chapter 4 - Grandma's Second Lawyer

An elderly attorney named Miriam Cole arrived at headquarters carrying a sealed letter.
Nobody in the Sterling family knew Grandma Evelyn had hired Miriam six months before her death.
Miriam had supervised a new trust after Evelyn discovered money disappearing from Sterling Freight & Logistics.
For the first time, the people who had counted on Clara's silence had to wonder what she already knew.
She explained that the lake house and controlling shares had been left to Clara not as a reward, but as a shield to prevent Richard from selling the company before auditors could trace the missing funds.
Miriam also revealed that Evelyn had placed the original trust in a secure location and left a separate evidentiary package with a retired judge.
For the first time, the people who had counted on Clara's silence had to wonder what she already knew.
"Tell me the part you left out," Clara said.
No one answered immediately.
"That silence is an answer," she said.
The room seemed to tighten around them.
Clara had spent years following money through false names and polished paperwork.
She knew fraud rarely collapsed because of one dramatic confession.
It collapsed because liars eventually created more details than they could keep consistent.
This case was beginning to fracture exactly that way.
Before the day ended, another preserved record contradicted the version her family had repeated publicly.
Clara read it twice.
Then she looked up.
"Now we know where to go next."

Then Clara saw the name on the next document, and everything changed.
