CHAPTER 2 — THE WIFE WHO KNEW TOO MUCH
The room went silent.
Adrian didn’t move.
Neither did Olivia.
Only the woman smiled.
“My name is Victoria Blackwood,” she said.
“My legal wife.”
Olivia turned to Adrian.
“What is she talking about?!”
Adrian exhaled slowly.
“This is exactly what I told you not to react to.”
Victoria laughed softly.
“Oh, she doesn’t know.”
She walked around Olivia like she was inspecting a product.
“You picked an interesting one,” Victoria said to Adrian.
Olivia stepped back. “I’m leaving.”
Adrian grabbed her wrist.
“You can’t.”
“Excuse me?!”
Victoria clapped once.
The doors locked automatically.
Olivia’s breath caught.
“What is this?!”
Victoria leaned closer.
“Did he tell you why you specifically were chosen?”
Olivia shook her head.
Victoria whispered:
“Because you were the last person who saw him before his first death.”
Silence.
Olivia froze.
“I’ve never met him before this job.”
Victoria smiled wider.
“That’s what he told you… or what he made you believe.”
Adrian finally spoke.
“Stop.”
But Victoria ignored him.

“Tell her, Adrian.”
“She was there the night your old identity died.”
