PART 3: THE HOUSE THAT TURNED AGAINST HIM

Brandon exploded.

“SHUT UP!”

He grabbed a chair and kicked it aside.

“I DIDN’T KILL ANYONE!”

But no one moved.

Not me.

Not Harold.

Not even Linda, standing behind the door now, shaking.

Harold pointed at the folder again.

“Then explain the payout.”

Silence.

Brandon froze.

Harold continued calmly.

“The life insurance policy increased three days before Michael died.”

A pause.

“Signed by you.”

The air collapsed.

I felt something break inside me.

Michael…

My husband…

Not an accident.

Not random.

Brandon stepped back slowly.

“No… that’s not—”

But his voice lost strength.

Because the truth was already standing in the room.

I looked at him.

My voice barely came out.

“You looked me in the eye… and told me to leave the hospital early because it was ‘just a minor crash’…”

Brandon’s face twisted. “You don’t understand—”

I screamed.

“HE WAS MY HUSBAND!”

Silence shattered the house.

Harold moved closer to me now.

Gentler.

“This is why I stayed quiet,” he said. “Until today.”

Brandon suddenly grabbed his phone.

“You’re all insane— I’m calling my lawyer!”

But Harold didn’t even flinch.

He pressed a small button on the folder.

A recording played.

Brandon’s voice.

Clear.

Cold.

“I need the accident to look clean.”

Brandon froze mid-dial.

The phone slipped from his hand.

Clattered on the floor.

I stared at him.

Not crying anymore.

Just… empty.

“You planned it,” I whispered.

He shook his head violently. “No— that’s edited—”

But no one believed him.

Not anymore.

Sirens echoed faintly outside.

Getting closer.

Harold spoke one last time.

“You should’ve burned the whole truth, Brandon.”

A pause.

“Not just the body.”

Brandon turned toward the door.

For the first time—

he ran.

But the house was already surrounded.

And as the flashing red and blue lights painted the walls—

I realized something horrifying.

This wasn’t the end of a fight.

It was the beginning of everything coming back.
