PART 2: THE FILE THAT SHOULD NOT EXIST

To the forbidden drawer.

The one no one had ever touched.

A key slid into his hand.

CLICK.

The lock opened.

He pulled out a thick yellow folder.

And when it hit the floor—

Everything changed.

Because the truth inside wasn’t just hidden.

It was lethal.

The folder hit the floor with a dull thud.

No one moved.

Not even Brandon.

Grandpa Harold stood in the doorway like gravity had finally remembered him.

His voice came out rough, unused.

“Read it.”

Brandon laughed nervously. “Old man, sit down before you hurt yourself—”

“READ IT.”

The word cracked through the air.

For the first time, Brandon didn’t interrupt.

Harold turned his head toward me slightly.

“Pick it up.”

My hands were shaking as I reached for the folder.

Inside—

documents.

Bank transfers.

Property deeds.

Insurance policies.

My breath stopped when I saw Michael’s name.

My dead husband.

But not as a victim.

As a shareholder.

A majority shareholder.

“No…” I whispered. “This can’t be real…”

Brandon stepped closer. “What kind of scam is this?”

Harold finally looked at him.

And smiled.

A tired, broken smile.

“Your brother didn’t die in an accident,” he said quietly.

Silence.

The world froze.

Brandon’s face changed instantly. “What did you just say?”

Harold pointed at the papers.

“He was killed because he found this.”

My hands went numb.

Killed.

The word didn’t feel real.

Brandon grabbed the folder and flipped through it violently.

His breathing got heavier.

Then—

he saw something.

A signature.

His own last name.

Attached to a shell company.

The color drained from his face.

“…no,” he whispered.

Harold nodded slowly.

“You’ve been stealing from your own family for years.”

A pause.

“And Michael was about to expose all of it.”

My stomach twisted.

Brandon dropped the papers.

“You’re lying!”

But his voice cracked.

Because he knew.

Harold stepped forward.

“And you didn’t just steal money.”

A pause.

May you like

“You arranged the accident.”

My knees nearly gave out.
