The boardroom was silent.
Richard stood outside the table for the first time.
I sat at the head.
He forced a laugh.
“You can’t run this company.”
I looked at him.
“I already am.”
The CFO stood.
“You’ll destroy everything.”
I shrugged.
“Then watch.”
I pressed enter on my laptop.
All systems locked.
Gasps erupted.
“What did you do?!”
“I fixed it.”
Richard stepped forward.
“This isn’t over.”
My phone rang.
Unknown number.
I answered.
A voice said:
“You just activated the second clause.”
I frowned.
“What clause?”
Silence.
Then:
“You didn’t just buy a company.”
“You triggered a corporate takeover chain.”
Call ended.
I looked up.
And realized…
