Chapter 4 — The Worthless Dirt

Six months later...

The old ranch looked different.

The broken fences had been repaired.

The house where my father raised me had been restored.

Oil wells stood in the distance.

Not because I wanted luxury.

Because my father had always believed the land deserved another chance.

Bryce accepted a plea agreement.

Vanessa resigned before her company fired her.

Neither of them ever received a single acre.

One afternoon I stood beside my father's grave.

The same attorney placed a small folder in my hands.

"Your father always refused to sell."

I smiled.

"I know."

"He believed there was something special beneath that dirt."

I looked across the pasture.

Turns out...

He wasn't just talking about the oil.

He was talking about character.

The people who saw only worthless land...

Also saw a worthless woman.

They were wrong about both.
