The soldiers rowed to the center of the raging river.

Then they pushed her into the freezing water.
As Elena sank beneath the waves, she whispered, "If I survive... I will never forgive you."

When Elena opened her eyes again, she was lying inside a magnificent tent.
A handsome older man sat beside her.
"You're awake," he said.
"I am Emperor Liang of the Northern Empire."
