CHAPTER 1: THE THIRD TIME SHE CHEATED

CHAPTER 1: THE THIRD TIME SHE CHEATED

Jake Thompson should have walked away the first time.

Maybe even the second.

But somehow, he always found an excuse.

The first time his wife Melissa cheated, she cried for three hours and swore it meant nothing.

The second time, she blamed stress.

Now Jake sat alone in his truck staring at a photo someone had just texted him.

Melissa.

Holding another man's hand.

Again.

His phone rang.

It was his younger sister, Hannah.

"Please tell me you're finally done with her."

Jake rubbed his face.

"I don't know."

Hannah nearly screamed.

"You don't know?! Jake, she's cheated three times!"

"I love her."

The silence on the other end felt painful.

Then Hannah said quietly:

"No. You're addicted to fixing people."

Jake hung up.

Deep down, he knew she was right.

But thirty minutes later, he still drove home.

Still walked through the front door.

Still planned to forgive her.

Again.

What Jake didn't know was that Melissa wasn't the biggest liar in his life.

Not even close.

And before the week was over, he would discover a secret his entire family had been hiding for twenty years.
