Chapter 3: The Man Behind the Wall

Chapter 3: The Man Behind the Wall

Security officers entered the hidden passage with flashlights.

The tunnel stretched far beneath the hospital.

At the end sat a man.

Thin.

Dirty.

Terrified.

He shielded his eyes from the light.

"Oh my God..." one officer whispered.

The man looked like he'd been living there for years.

Jake knelt beside him.

"Sir, what's your name?"

The man hesitated.

Then quietly said,

"Daniel Brooks."

The room went silent.

Jake recognized the name immediately.

Daniel Brooks had disappeared seven years ago.

Officially, he was dead.

The hospital had even issued records confirming it.

"Who put you here?" Jake asked.

Daniel's hands shook.

"They said nobody would believe me."

"Who?"

Daniel pointed upward.

Toward the hospital.

Then he whispered four words:

"The people running it."

Before anyone could react—

May you like

the tunnel lights suddenly went out.

To be continued...
