CHAPTER 3: THE SECRET FROM THE NIGHT OF THE CRASH

Logan led Marina into his private study while the guests remained downstairs whispering among themselves.
Vanessa insisted on coming.
Emma refused to leave Marina's side.
The moment the door closed, Logan asked the question that had been burning inside him.
"How did you know my wife?"
Marina took a deep breath.
"I was her nurse."
The answer surprised everyone.
Logan's wife, Olivia, had spent several weeks in the hospital after Emma was born due to complications.
Marina had cared for her almost every day.
"Olivia loved that little girl more than anything," Marina said softly, looking at Emma.
The child sat quietly beside her.
For the first time in years, Emma looked calm.
Almost safe.
Logan struggled to understand.
"If you were her nurse, why would Emma remember you?"
Marina hesitated.
Then came the twist.
"Because I was with Olivia the night of the crash."
Silence.
Vanessa's head snapped up.
Logan stared.
"What did you say?"
Marina's hands trembled.
"The police said Olivia died instantly."
She swallowed.
"That wasn't true."
Nobody spoke.
Marina continued.
"I was the first person to reach her car."
Logan felt his heartbeat quicken.
"Olivia was alive."
The room froze.
"She spoke before the ambulance arrived."
Vanessa suddenly stood up.
"That's enough."
But Marina wasn't looking at her.
She was looking directly at Logan.
"Your wife told me something before she died."
Logan's face turned pale.
"What did she say?"
Marina opened her mouth.
But before she could answer—
Vanessa slammed her hand against the desk.
And shouted,
"She's lying!"
The reaction was so intense that everyone in the room turned toward her.
Including Logan.
