Maria finally told Lucas everything.
Three years ago...
Before Isabella died...
She had discovered Marcus was stealing from the company.
She planned to expose him.
But Marcus found out.
He threatened her.
Maria had been working at the mansion that night.
She saw the argument.
She saw Marcus leave.
And she saw something else.
"The accident wasn't an accident."
Lucas went completely still.
"What?"
Maria cried.
"I was afraid."
"I had Lily."
"I thought he would come after us."
"Why didn't you tell me?"
"Because Marcus told me you would never believe a maid over your best friend."
Lucas closed his eyes.
Because the worst part...
Was that Marcus was right.
For years...
He trusted the wrong person.
That night, Lucas called Marcus.
"Come to the mansion."
Marcus arrived smiling.
"What happened?"
Lucas placed Isabella's letter on the table.
The smile disappeared.
"You found it."
Lucas looked at him.
"Why?"
Marcus sighed.
"Because everything belonged to me."
"The company."
"The power."
"Your wife."
Lucas stepped forward.
"Don't say her name."
Marcus laughed.
"She was going to destroy everything."
"So I removed the problem."
The room went silent.
Lucas's voice became deadly calm.
"You killed my wife."
Marcus smiled.
"I saved your empire."
