CHAPTER 2: THE DEAD MAN TESTIFIED
The judge ordered a recess.
Two detectives rushed to Union Station.
Locker 317 opened with the old brass key.
Inside...
A stack of notebooks.
A flash drive.
A sealed envelope addressed to the court.
One hour later...
Everyone returned.
The lead detective's hands were shaking.
"We confirmed the handwriting."
The prosecutor frowned.
"Confirmed what?"
The detective looked toward Daniel.
"The notebooks belong to Michael Grant."
Gasps filled the courtroom.
The victim stood up.
"That's impossible."
Michael Grant was the businessman who supposedly identified Daniel as the robber.
The detective continued.
"Michael Grant died in a boating accident three years ago."
Silence.
"So..."
The judge whispered.
"Who testified yesterday?"
