Chapter 12 — The Third Person

Adrian survived surgery.
Vanessa was arrested.
Clara remained under police guard until the forged messages were traced to Adrian’s network.
Elena woke briefly, then slipped back into unconsciousness.
The mansion filled with investigators.
Walls were opened.
Computers seized.
Bank records copied.
Yet the most important question remained unanswered.
Who had watched the greenhouse footage live?
The system audit showed an external connection from inside the mansion.
Not Vanessa.
Not Adrian.
Not Mateo.
The login belonged to Juliano.
His personal credentials.
“Someone cloned your access,” Mateo said.
Juliano looked at him across the security room.
Mateo had dark circles beneath his eyes.
He had not been arrested, but he was no longer in charge.
“You sold camera access once,” Juliano said.
“I know.”
“You could be lying again.”
“I know that too.”
Juliano almost dismissed him.
Then Mateo placed an old keycard on the desk.
“I found this behind the server rack.”
The card carried the Ferraz company logo from fifteen years earlier.
It belonged to his father’s private office.
“Why would this be here?”
Mateo shook his head.
“The logs show it was used yesterday.”
“My father is dead.”
“So was your mother.”
Juliano looked at him.
Mateo winced.
“Sorry. That came out wrong.”
It was the kind of clumsy sentence people made when they were exhausted.
It felt more honest than everything Vanessa had said.
Juliano inserted the card into the reader.
An archived folder opened.
Hundreds of surveillance clips appeared.
Bedrooms.
Hospital rooms.
Offices.
Private meetings.
His father had recorded everyone.
One file was dated the day of Elena’s supposed death.
Juliano opened it.
The video showed his father standing inside the basement medical room.
Adrian was beside him.
Elena lay unconscious on the bed.
A third person stood in the corner.
Only part of the face was visible.
A woman.
Dark hair.
Sharp posture.
Juliano paused the image.
He knew her.
“Impossible,” he whispered.
Mateo leaned closer.
“Who is she?”
Juliano did not answer.
The woman in the footage had been his father’s legal adviser.
She had managed the family trust after his death.
She had also become Juliano’s godmother.
Isabella Vale.
Adrian’s older sister.
Vanessa’s mother.
Juliano replayed the clip.
Isabella spoke to his father.
No audio.
Then she leaned over Elena and removed something from her neck.
A key.
The video ended.
Mateo sat back.
“Vanessa said her mother died.”
“She lied.”
“Again.”
Juliano stood.
His phone rang.
The hospital.
He answered.
A nurse spoke quickly.
“Mr. Ferraz, your mother is awake.”
Juliano grabbed his coat.
Then the nurse added, “She’s asking for Clara.”
Not him.
Clara.
When he reached the hospital room, Clara was already inside.
Elena held her hand.
May you like
On the blanket between them lay the missing key from the video.
And Clara was crying.
