The Bracelet That Shattered The Engagement
Chapter 1: The Slap
The grand ballroom sparkled under crystal chandeliers. Champagne towers gleamed beside arrangements of white roses as elite guests laughed and mingled at Scarlett Vance’s lavish engagement party.
Evelyn, the quiet waitress in a simple black uniform, moved through the crowd with a silver tray of amber cocktails. When Scarlett turned, their eyes met.
Scarlett’s elegant smile vanished. Recognition flashed into pure rage.
SLAP!
The sound cut through the room like a whip. Evelyn’s head snapped to the side, the tray trembling in her hands.
“Do you know where you are right now?” Scarlett hissed, voice low and venomous. “How dare you show your face here?”
Evelyn steadied herself, pain blooming across her cheek. She gently touched the reddened skin. As her sleeve shifted, a cheap silver bracelet caught the light — engraved with the letters “E.V.”
Scarlett noticed it. Her anger cracked into confusion… then fear.
Evelyn looked up calmly, her voice barely above a whisper.
“Happy engagement… Scarlett.”
The entire room went silent. In the background, Eleanor — Scarlett’s future mother-in-law — dropped her wine glass.
CRASH.

Red wine spilled across the white marble like blood.
Scarlett’s face turned ghostly pale. Her lips parted, but no words came out.
