Guests whispered furiously. Phones were already recording.
Scarlett stepped back, shaking. “You… you’re supposed to be dead.”
Evelyn — whose real name was Evangeline Voss — smiled faintly. “Surprise.”
The bracelet wasn’t cheap. It was the only thing she had left from the night Scarlett had betrayed her five years ago — the night Scarlett drugged her, stole her identity papers, and left her for dead in a foreign country so she could take her place as the heiress to the Voss fortune.

Alexander pushed through the crowd, eyes wide. “Evie…? Is that really you?”
Evelyn nodded, tears glistening but not falling. “It’s me, Alex. I came back for what she stole.”

Alexander looked at the bracelet, then at Scarlett. “That was Evie’s. You told me she died in a car accident.”
