PART 3 The Enemy Inside His Empire

Marcus stared at the email.

He read the sentence again.

And again.

"The wife must disappear before the child is born."

His hands tightened around the phone.

Because the message wasn't a threat.

It was a plan.

Someone had been watching his family.

Someone had been waiting.

And someone close to him had decided Khloe had to be removed.

The sender's name was still on the screen.

Nathan Cole.

Marcus's chief financial officer.

His closest business partner.

The man who had stood beside him when Thorne Global grew from a small investment company into a billion-dollar empire.

The man who knew every account.

Every contract.

Every weakness.

Marcus leaned back slowly.

"No..."

He whispered.

Because betrayal from an enemy was expected.

But betrayal from a friend felt different.

It felt personal.

Jonathan watched him carefully.

"You know him."

Marcus nodded.

"Nathan has worked with me for twelve years."

"He helped build everything."

Jonathan looked at the email.

"Then he knows exactly how to destroy everything."

Marcus stood.

"Why?"

Jonathan didn't answer immediately.

"Money."

"Power."

"Or maybe he believed he deserved what you built."

Marcus looked toward the window.

For years, Nathan had always said the same thing.

"Without me, this company wouldn't exist."

At the time, Marcus thought it was loyalty.

Now...

He wondered if it was resentment.

When Marcus arrived at Thorne Global the next morning, everyone noticed something was different.

He didn't smile.

He didn't greet employees.

He walked directly to Nathan's office.

Nathan looked up.

"Marcus."

He smiled.

"You're back early."

Marcus closed the door.

"Why did you send an email saying my wife needed to disappear?"

The smile vanished.

Only for a second.

But Marcus saw it.

A mistake.

A small one.

But enough.

Nathan slowly stood.

"I don't know what you're talking about."

Marcus placed the phone on the desk.

The email was visible.

"Really?"

Silence.

Nathan looked at the screen.

Then sighed.

"You weren't supposed to find that."

Marcus felt his stomach drop.

Not denial.

Not confusion.

Confirmation.

"You admit it?"

Nathan looked at him.

"After everything I did for this company..."

"After everything I sacrificed..."

"You still chose her."

Marcus stared.

"Her?"

"Khloe?"

Nathan laughed.

"You have no idea what you've built."

"You have no idea how many people are tired of watching you play the hero."

The truth came out.

Nathan had been manipulating company finances for years.

Small amounts.

Small enough not to notice.

Until they became millions.

He planned to remove Marcus from control.

But there was one problem.

Khloe.

Because after their baby was born, Marcus planned to transfer ownership of several family assets into a protected trust.

Assets Nathan could never touch.

So Khloe wasn't just his wife.

She was the final obstacle.

"You tried to kill my child."

Marcus's voice became cold.

Nathan looked away.

"I never told Isabella to attack her."

"But you gave her information."

"Yes."

"You knew what she would do."

Silence.

That was enough.

Meanwhile, Khloe was recovering.

But she wasn't just waiting.

She was investigating too.

Jonathan gave her copies of the documents.

"There's something strange."

Khloe looked up.

"What?"

"Isabella had access to private information about your pregnancy."

"Only a few people knew."

Khloe thought carefully.

"My doctor."

"My assistant."

"The hospital."

Jonathan nodded.

"And one more person."

"Who?"

He placed a file on the table.

Khloe opened it.

Her face changed.

Because inside was a photo.

A photo of Isabella meeting someone.

A man.

Someone she recognized.

Someone she trusted.

Her own personal assistant.

Emily.

Khloe couldn't believe it.

Emily had worked for her for three years.

She knew her schedule.

Her medical appointments.

Her fears.

Everything.

The person she trusted to protect her...

Had helped someone hurt her.

That evening, Khloe asked Emily to meet her.

Emily arrived nervous.

"You wanted to see me?"

Khloe looked at her.

"How long?"

Emily froze.

"What?"

"How long have you been working with Isabella?"

The color disappeared from Emily's face.

"I don't know what you mean."

Khloe placed the documents on the table.

Emails.

Payments.

Messages.

Emily sat down slowly.

Tears filled her eyes.

"I didn't want this."

Khloe stared.

"But you helped her."

Emily covered her face.

"My brother was in trouble."

"Isabella promised she would help him."

"So you sold my life for money?"

Emily cried.

"No."

"I thought she only wanted information."

"I never thought she would hurt you."

Khloe looked at her.

"But she did."

That night, the final piece of the puzzle appeared.

The police searched Nathan's office.

They found hidden accounts.

Contracts.

And a folder labeled:

"Thorne Family Transition Plan."

Inside was everything.

The plan.

The timeline.

The money.

The names.

But there was one final page.

A handwritten note.

Nathan's handwriting.

Three words:

"After Marcus falls."

Marcus stared at it.

Because suddenly he understood.

Nathan didn't just want money.

He wanted control.

Weeks later, the trial began.

Isabella.

Nathan.

Emily.

All three faced the consequences of their choices.

But before sentencing...

Isabella asked to speak with Khloe.

Khloe agreed.

Not because she forgave her.

Because she wanted answers.

Isabella sat across from her.

For the first time, she looked small.

"I hated you."

Khloe remained silent.

"Because you had what I wanted."

"What?"

"A man who loved you."

Isabella looked down.

"I spent my whole life believing being chosen was everything."

Khloe looked at her.

"And now?"

Isabella swallowed.

"Now I know I destroyed the only thing I could never buy."

Respect.

Months later...

Khloe gave birth to a healthy baby girl.

Marcus was beside her.

Holding their daughter for the first time.

He looked at Khloe.

"We almost lost everything."

She smiled softly.

"But we didn't."

Outside the hospital window, the city continued moving.

People chasing money.

Power.

Status.

But Marcus and Khloe learned something more valuable.

A family isn't protected by wealth.

It's protected by trust.

And the people who try to destroy it...

May you like

Eventually reveal exactly who they are.
