PART 2 - The Pregnancy Termination Plan
Adam’s hands shook so violently he almost dropped his phone.
Instead of calling his mother, he dialed 911.
Within minutes, the quiet apartment exploded with flashing lights, paramedics, and terrified voices.
As they lifted Lily onto the stretcher, she gripped his sleeve with surprising strength.
“Don’t let her near the baby,” she whispered before another wave of pain stole her breath.
Those words echoed inside Adam long after the ambulance doors slammed shut.
At the hospital, doctors rushed Lily into the emergency maternity unit while nurses cleaned the blood from her hands.
One physician approached Adam with a grave expression.
“Your wife and the baby are stable for now. But she suffered severe emotional stress. Another hour without treatment could have been devastating.”
Adam leaned against the wall, unable to breathe.
One hour.
He had wasted an entire minute standing in judgment while she fought to protect their child.
The guilt settled into his chest like stone.
When detectives arrived, they quietly collected his statement.
Adam described the broken frame, the blood, the bruises, and finally Lily’s shocking accusation.
One detective exchanged a glance with his partner.
“Did your mother have a key to the apartment?”
Adam closed his eyes.
“She insisted on keeping one. She said family should always have access.”
His stomach twisted.
Family.
That word suddenly felt dangerous.
While Lily slept, Adam returned home with police officers.
The apartment looked even colder under bright forensic lights.
An investigator carefully searched the bedroom before calling Adam over.
“There’s something beneath the bed.”
It was a black leather medical bag.
Inside were unopened syringes, surgical gloves, sedatives, and several unsigned medical consent forms.
One document stopped Adam’s heart.
Across the top, in bold letters, were the words: Emergency Pregnancy Termination Authorization.
His wife’s name had already been typed onto the form.
But the signature line was blank.
Someone had expected Lily to sign—or intended to sign for her.
As officers photographed the evidence, Adam noticed one final envelope tucked beneath the paperwork.
His mother’s elegant handwriting covered the front.
It simply read: “For Dr. Reynolds. Payment after the procedure is complete.”
Adam realized this nightmare had been planned long before his business trip began.
And he had unknowingly helped make it possible.

The next morning, the detective called with news that changed everything: Dr. Reynolds had disappeared, and someone had emptied every security recording from the apartment building only hours before Lily was attacked.
The only remaining clue was hidden inside a single voicemail that had never reached Adam’s phone.
