CHAPTER 3: THE FINAL TRUTH

CHAPTER 3: THE FINAL TRUTH

Emma cautiously opened the door.

The older officer immediately spoke.

"Ma'am, may we come in privately?"

Jason protested.

"She's lying! My wife is mentally unstable!"

The officer ignored him.

Once inside, he lowered his voice.

"We've been investigating your husband for six months."

Emma frowned.

"What?"

The officer explained that Jason was suspected of insurance fraud, money laundering, and assault.

Several women had also accused him of abuse.

But there was one final shock.

The little boy wasn't Jason's either.

Sophie started crying.

"I found out last year."

DNA testing proved Jason had never fathered any children.

He had secretly undergone a vasectomy before marrying Sophie because he never wanted kids.

The little boy belonged to Sophie's former boyfriend—the same man Jason had paid to disappear years earlier.

Jason had known the truth all along.

He simply stayed for money.

Police arrested Jason that night.

As they led him away in handcuffs, he screamed at Sophie:

"You ruined my life!"

Sophie laughed bitterly.

"No, Jason. We ruined each other's."

Months later, Emma received another surprise.

Her parents showed up unannounced.

Both looked older.

Smaller somehow.

"We're sorry," her father whispered.

Emma listened.

Then quietly said, "I forgive you."

Her mother started crying.

"But forgiveness doesn't mean things go back to the way they were."

They never did.

A year later, Emma opened her own successful architecture firm.

Sophie and her son moved nearby.

The sisters slowly rebuilt their relationship.

One evening, while watching her nephew play in the yard, Emma smiled.

She had lost a wedding.

Lost her family.

Lost the future she thought she wanted.

But in the end, she found something better.

May you like

A new beginning.

THE END.
