Chapter 5: The Freecycle Ad

Dave lunged. I stabbed the couch with the knife.
It SCREAMED.
Black sludge sprayed out, hitting Dave’s face. He howled and dropped the duffel bag.

I grabbed Tyler and yanked. He came out covered in that penny-smelling sludge, gasping.
“RUN!” I screamed.

We bolted past Dave and out the door. Didn’t stop until the police station.
Cops didn’t believe us. “Mold,” they said. “Gas leak. College kids.”
They went to check. Apartment was empty. No couch. No Dave. Just a bleach stain on the floor.

A week later, Tyler moved out. Said he couldn’t sleep.
I stayed. Rent was cheap.

Last night, I was on Freecycle looking for a new roommate.
New post. 2 minutes ago.
“Free couch. No bed bugs. Pickup only.”

I checked my living room.
The couch was back.
And the center cushion… was already flipped.

The End.
