The recording crackled.

She couldn't finish.
"If what?" I shouted.
"If Emily's father attended the wedding."
The room fell silent.
She had known.
All along.
The sheriff stepped forward.
"Margaret's decision to change the catering company disrupted the plan."
"The suspects were forced to improvise."
"And her quick actions likely saved dozens of lives."
I turned toward my mother-in-law.
