CHAPTER 2: THE BEST PRINCIPAL THEY NEVER HIRED
Grandpa spent the entire morning accidentally running the school.
He joined fourth graders at recess.
Lost a game of dodgeball.
Confiscated a teacher's phone because she was texting during assembly.
"You tell kids to stay off their phones," he said.
"You too."
By lunch, every student knew his name.
The real principal kept watching.
Finally he walked over.
"You know..."
Grandpa sighed.
"I've been waiting all day to get fired."
The principal laughed.
"I'm actually retired next month."
He looked across the playground where children surrounded Grandpa, all laughing.
"I've spent twenty years trying to get this school to smile that much."
Grandpa scratched his head.
"So..."
"Do I still fix the air conditioner?"
The principal grinned.
"Only if you promise to visit every Friday."
Grandpa did.
The air conditioner was repaired the next week.

But the students kept asking the same question every Friday morning.
"Is Grandpa Frank coming today?"
