Chapter 2: The Mistress’s Trap
At the military hospital, doctors worked to save both Emma and the baby. Colonel Black refused to leave her bedside, holding her hand through every contraction scare.
While she rested, he started digging into Ryan and Sophia’s life. What he uncovered made his blood boil.
They had been planning this for over a year. Ryan only married Emma for her family land. Sophia had helped him fake the documents to declare Emma mentally unstable after the birth so they could take everything — including the baby.
“You two planned to drug my daughter and steal my grandson?” Colonel Black confronted them at the police station, voice shaking with rage.
Sophia smirked. “Prove it, old man. You were dead. You have no rights here.”
That night, someone tried to sneak into Emma’s hospital room with a syringe. Colonel Black caught the intruder and broke his arm in two places.
“Who sent you?!” he roared.
The man confessed quickly: “Sophia… she said the baby couldn’t be born alive.”
Emma woke up crying the next morning. “Dad… I’m terrified. What if they take my baby away?”
Colonel Black held her tight. “They’ll have to kill me first. And I’ve survived worse than these two cowards.”
But Ryan’s rich family struck back. His uncle, a powerful judge, froze Emma’s accounts and threatened Colonel Black with charges for assault and “faking his death.”
During the emergency hearing, Sophia dropped the ultimate bomb with a wicked smile:
