Chapter 2: The Secret In The Garage

Chapter 2: The Secret In The Garage

The wedding was over.

My heart was broken.

My life was in ruins.

And my father was cleaning grease from his hands.

Like nothing had happened.

I slammed the garage door behind me.

"How are you so calm?"

He didn't answer.

"Did you hear what they said about us?"

Still nothing.

Then he opened an old metal cabinet.

Removed a small black box.

And placed it on the table.

"What is that?"

My father sat down.

Suddenly looking twenty years older.

Then he said five words.

"I owe you the truth."

My stomach dropped.

"What truth?"

He opened the box.

Inside were photographs.

Newspaper clippings.

Corporate documents.

Private jets.

Luxury estates.

Billions of dollars.

I stared.

Confused.

Then I saw a younger version of my father.

Standing beside presidents.

Celebrities.

World leaders.

I looked up.

Unable to speak.

He nodded slowly.

"My real name isn't Daniel Reed."

The room spun.

"What?"

He slid over a passport.

The name read:

Daniel Harrington.

The Harrington family.

One of the wealthiest families in the country.

My hands began shaking.

"No."

My father nodded.

"Thirty years ago, I walked away from everything."

I couldn't breathe.

"Why?"

His eyes filled with tears.

"Because your mother mattered more."

The room went silent.

Then he handed me another document.

I looked down.

My blood turned cold.

The title read:

HARRINGTON GLOBAL HOLDINGS

Majority Shareholder:

Sophia Reed

I froze.

"What is this?"

My father swallowed hard.

"Everything belongs to you."

Then my phone rang.

Unknown number.

I answered.

A terrified voice whispered:

"Miss Reed..."

May you like

"What?"

"Ethan just found out."
