Chapter 3: The Truth That Destroyed Everyone

Outside the church, rain had started.

Like the sky was reacting too late.

My phone rang.

Sophie.

I ignored it.

Then Daniel.

Ignored.

Then unknown number.

I answered.

A lawyer.

“Miss Carter?”

“Yes.”

“There’s something you need to know about the prenup.”

I froze.

“What prenup?”

Silence.

Then he said:

“The one your fiancé signed last night.”

My blood ran cold.

“What?”

“You are listed as sole beneficiary of Reed Holdings.”

I stopped walking.

“That’s not possible.”

He continued:

“If the wedding is called off due to infidelity disclosure…”

A pause.

“…you gain full ownership.”

My hands started shaking.

“What are you saying?”

The lawyer’s voice dropped.

“I’m saying you didn’t lose a husband.”

“You inherited a company.”

Silence.

Then another call came in.

Daniel.

I answered.

He didn’t sound like the man in the church anymore.

He sounded… afraid.

“You knew.”

I whispered:

“What are you talking about?”

He exhaled sharply.

“My father structured everything.”

A pause.

“If Sophie ever revealed the truth…”

His voice broke slightly.

“…you were always meant to take control.”

My world stopped.

“You planned this?”

He didn’t answer immediately.

Then said quietly:

“No.”

“I just forgot what I signed.”

Silence.

Then Sophie’s voice came through the background.

“Daniel… what did you do?”

For the first time…

He didn’t have an answer.

Because somewhere between love, lies, and ambition…

They had both built a system that no longer belonged to either of them.

And I was the only one standing outside it.
