Chapter 4 — A New Beginning Worth Fighting For

Chapter 4 — A New Beginning Worth Fighting For

Six months later, the mansion in Lomas de Chapultepec stood empty.

The marble floors had been auctioned along with the artwork, luxury cars, and expensive furniture that once symbolized Santiago's success.

The fortune he had built on deception disappeared piece by piece under court supervision.

Santiago accepted a plea agreement that spared victims years of additional trials but left him with a lengthy prison sentence.

Beatriz faced convictions for conspiracy, fraud, evidence tampering, and participating in the scheme to unlawfully seize my child.

Neither of them ever saw Gabriel again.

As for me...

I chose not to return to my father's corporate offices.

Instead, I reopened the small classroom where I had once taught children before marriage changed everything.

Every afternoon I read stories while Gabriel slept nearby in a cradle beneath the window.

The children never cared that I came from one of Mexico's wealthiest families.

They cared that I listened.

That I encouraged them.

That I believed in them.

One afternoon my father stopped by carrying Gabriel in his arms.

"You know," he said with a smile, "Grupo Salazar still has a place waiting for you."

I looked around the classroom filled with laughter, paint, and little voices learning to dream.

"I'm already exactly where I belong."

He nodded proudly.

"I think your mother would have said the same."

Years later, when Gabriel was old enough to ask why his grandfather always hugged us a little tighter than everyone else, I told him the truth.

"Real strength isn't measured by how much power you have."

"It's measured by what you protect with it."

He smiled and slipped his small hand into mine.

Outside, the sun shone brightly over a future no one would ever steal from us again.

Because the greatest victory wasn't watching an empire collapse.

It was discovering that peace, dignity, and love could still be rebuilt—even after surviving the darkest chapter of our lives.

The End.
