CHAPTER 2: THE PLAN SHE DIDN’T SEE COMING
The next morning, Maria was unusually kind.
“You look tired, Mrs. Whitmore,” she said.
Claire forced a smile.
“Long night.”
Maria nodded.
“I understand.”
That evening, Claire left the house early.
But she didn’t go far.
She watched from her car.
At exactly 8:17 PM, Maria entered Mr. Whitmore’s study again.
Claire opened her phone.
Checked the live feed.
Maria closed the door.
And smiled.
Not politely.
Not kindly.
But confidently.
Inside the study, Maria placed a folder on the desk.
“Everything is ready,” she said.
Mr. Whitmore looked nervous.
“This is too fast.”
Maria tilted her head.
“Your wife trusts you completely.”
“That’s her mistake.”
Claire froze outside the house.
What?
Inside, Maria continued.
“The documents are simple.”
“Transfer assets into a joint trust.”
“And tomorrow, she signs everything away.”
Mr. Whitmore hesitated.
“I don’t want to hurt her.”
Maria laughed softly.
“You already are.”
Then she leaned closer.
“And after that…”
“You divorce her.”
“Like we planned.”
Claire’s blood turned cold.
We.
She zoomed in on the footage.
Then noticed something else.
A second voice on a hidden call.
May you like
Someone was listening.
Maria wasn’t alone.
