Chapter 3: The Door That Broke the Darkness

Everything happened at once.

Fighting.

Shouting.

A crash.

But I only heard one thing clearly.

Footsteps rushing toward me.

“Elena,” the voice said again, softer now.

I froze.

“…who are you?”

A pause.

Then:

“It’s me.”

Something inside me cracked.

Because I remembered that voice.

Daniel.

My brother.

But Roberto had told me he moved away.

That he left the country.

That I was alone.

I wasn’t.

Hands touched my shoulders gently.

I flinched.

“No—don’t—”

“It’s okay,” he said quickly. “It’s me. You’re safe.”

Behind him, chaos.

Roberto yelling.

The stranger shouting orders.

Then police sirens in the distance.

It all blurred together.

But I only focused on the hands holding me steady.

Real hands.

Not lies.

Daniel whispered:

“You’re not alone anymore.”

My throat tightened.

“…you came back.”

A pause.

“I never left,” he said.

Silence.

Then he added:

“I just couldn’t reach you.”

A loud crash behind us.

Roberto screamed:

“She’s mine!”

And Daniel answered without turning:

“No.”

A pause.

“Not anymore.”

Footsteps dragged away.

Struggles intensified.

Then silence.

The kind that follows a fall.

A final voice—Roberto’s—low and broken:

“You think this changes anything?”

Daniel leaned closer to me.

And said quietly:

“It changes everything.”

Sirens grew louder.

The darkness around me didn’t disappear.

But for the first time in three months…

it didn’t feel empty.

It felt full.

Because even without sight…

I wasn’t alone anymore.

And someone had finally come to open the door I thought would never break.

May you like
