Chapter 3 — The Fall
Damian reached for his phone.
It vibrated before he could unlock it.
Then another notification.
Then another.
The board of directors.
Legal counsel.
Corporate compliance.
Emergency shareholder resolution.
His pulse quickened.
"What is this?"
The chairman answered before anyone else could.
"An emergency board meeting was held one hour ago."
Damian's eyes widened.
"You can't hold a meeting without me."
"We can."
The chairman folded his hands.
"The majority shareholder authorized it."
Every executive seated around the ballroom slowly stood.
Not for Damian.
For Elena.
One after another.
The people Damian believed were loyal lowered their heads respectfully toward the woman he had ignored for years.
Security quietly approached.
Professional.
Silent.
Not threatening.
Merely waiting.
Damian looked at Elena.
"You planned this."
She met his eyes without anger.
"I prepared for the day you stopped remembering who stood beside you."
The chairman read the resolution aloud.
"Effective immediately, Damian Cross is removed as Chief Executive Officer of Voss Global Holdings."
The words echoed through the ballroom.
Veronica grabbed Damian's arm.
"Tell them they're making a mistake!"
No one answered her.
