Chapter 3 – When Masks Finally Fell

Police escorted Brenda from the building while cameras flashed outside.
She screamed Andrew's name.
He never answered.
Margaret rushed toward Mariana.
"I didn't know."
"I was manipulated."
Mariana remained calm.
"You didn't need evidence."
"You needed someone beneath you."
Margaret lowered her eyes.
For the first time in years...
She had no cruel words left.
Andrew stepped closer.
"I made a terrible mistake."
"No."
Mariana answered quietly.
"You made thousands."
"You simply noticed this one because it finally cost you something."
He reached for her hand.
She stepped back.
"I loved you."
"I know."
"I still do."
Her expression softened for a brief moment.
"But love without respect eventually becomes grief."
The divorce settlement was finalized within weeks.
Mariana requested nothing beyond what already belonged to her.
No public humiliation.
No revenge interviews.
No victory speeches.
Only truth.
Andrew resigned as CEO.
Several board members publicly admitted Mariana had been the true architect behind the company's survival.
The media called her:
"The Invisible Executive."
She hated the title.
She had never wanted recognition.
Only partnership.
Andrew visited the mansion one last time before moving into a modest apartment.
The grand halls echoed with silence.
Every room reminded him of the woman whose quiet presence had once made the house feel like a home.

Now...
It was only expensive stone.
