CHAPTER 4: THE SECOND CHANCE

CHAPTER 4: THE SECOND CHANCE

Three months later.

The mansion felt strangely different.

Quieter.

Warmer.

More real.

Richard sat across from Lily on the back patio.

The relationship wasn't perfect.

It couldn't be.

You can't erase twenty-two years overnight.

But they were trying.

And that mattered.

Lily smiled while looking through old family photos.

Photos Richard had saved for decades.

Pictures of the life he once thought he'd have with Emily.

"I think Mom would've laughed at these."

Richard chuckled.

"She laughed at everything."

For a moment, both fell silent.

Thinking about the same person.

Missing the same person.

Then Lily looked at him.

"Can I ask something?"

"Anything."

She hesitated.

"Were you angry at her?"

Richard stared at the sunset.

Then shook his head.

"No."

"Even after all those years?"

He smiled sadly.

"I was angry at losing her."

A tear rolled down Lily's cheek.

Richard reached across the table.

Carefully.

Giving her the choice.

This time she didn't pull away.

Instead, she squeezed his hand.

The same way a daughter might have done years ago.

Richard's eyes filled with tears.

Because after losing twenty-two years...

He had been given something he never expected.

Not a second life.

Not a second love.

A second chance.

And sometimes...

May you like

That's even more valuable.

THE END.
